FRANK HASSELSTROEM is a danish composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist.

(piano, trombone, tenorhorn, trumpet, guitar, bass, drums & misc. percussion)


Frank had a classical upbringing, but went on as a young man to study at the Danish Rythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. So Frank feels at home in both worlds. He writes both classical and rythmic music - from symphonic scores to modern pop & electronica.


He has written music for film, theater, ballet, artists, art exibitions and commercials.


In 2001 Frank founded the experimental pop band, CATBIRD, along with the extraordinary singer,

Billie Koppel. SONY released their debut album "Sliding From The Moon"in 2002, which recieved great reviews and had a lot of airplay on danish radio.


Frank was in 2003 nominated for "Best Producer of the year"at the Danish Music Awards 2003.

He was also (with Catbird) nominated at the Danish Radio (DR) P3-prize “Best New Act”.


In 2004 Flemming Flindt (ballétmaster) asked him to make a new arrengement and new music for the ballét“Triumph Of The Death” staged at Oestre Gasverk Theater.


In 2005 he composed the VollsmoseSymphony for Odense Symphonic Orchestra.


Frank’s mentor, the late Thomas Koppel, introduced him to pro tools, and he has since then grown into an expert in Pro tools. Now Frank has his own studio, located in an old woodhouse in the south harbor of Copenhagen. When Thomas died, Frank went on to help Annisette in Savage Rose with composing, arranging, as well as being her bandmaster for the Savage Rose tours.


Frank has been composing and producing for various projects as Annisette, Odense Symphonic Orchestra, Oestre Gasvaerk Theater, Savage Rose, Royal Danish Strings, Martin Hall, Catbird, Wibroe, Duckert & Partner, & Co., DR, TV2, STV, Naja Rosa, Peter Langdal, Ribe Art Museum,

World OutGames, Tivoli, Tuborg.


Catbird released their 2nd album “Among Us” in 2008. They are now working on their 3rd album.

DID YOU KNOW...

Frank was born in Albertslund, just outside of Copenhagen. He began playing music at the age of 6 in the Tivoli Garden Boys Band. He started out on the drums, but moved on to play the trombone and tenorhorn, and finally conducting the Harmonic Orrchestra. He later taught himself a bunch of other instruments.


He won 1st prize as 12-year old on trombone at the Berlingske Classical Contest for kids under 18 year.  He also won 1st prize as 14-year old - but this time on piano in the Berlingske Rythmic Contest.. In his teens he was the founder, composer and bandleader of the big band Off Beat. Frank graudated from High School with A+ (12 in danish) in music, and went on to study at the Danish Rythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen.
